Not a head unit, a Ham Radio! A Yaesu FT-2900R 2 meter rig paired up to a Browning SB-180-b nmo mount antenna. I’m glad to finally be able to hit the Raleigh repeater W4DW from 20 miles away with full clarity. Going to a ham fest in Winston Salem this weekend to try and pickup a cheap power suply so I can use this setup from my dorm room.
I would have gotten better pictures but these were taken to explain how and why I drilled into my fender to my dad.
I’m starting to get really into the hobby. If you’re interested I highly recommend it. Buy a little Baofeng handheld and listen to repeaters before you get your license. Ask any questions you have. If I can’t help there are more experienced hams here on the Opponet.

I wanted to since ‘04 at my first rally. Been putting it off ever since.

Ha! Awesome. I actually have a FT-2900R in my camper/tow pig. 1998 GMChevy K2500/454. That little radio works well.

I’ve been interested in this kinda thing as of late, but I know nothing about the hobby.
But are you going to apply for an NC, “Amateur Radio,” license plate?

I ordered one. I figure even if I loose interest it’s still the cheapest way to have my initials on my plate.
Also my Raleigh to Boone and back trips will be much more entertaining on the air.

I’m going to purchase a custom plate when the time comes to actually purchase a car, and I’m debating between, “Daddy AF,” or, “Quay Egg.”
My aunt has a HAM in her Land Rover, and if the on the air talks are anything as near as funny or weird here as they are in Seattle then it should make for a good time.

“More experienced hams on the Opponent”? Fuck, I’ve been talking to pigs this whole time?

For $25 you can start listening to the Raleigh repeater. Can’t transmit without a license but it’s still fun to listen.

Is there a link that I can find to find the Raleigh repeater?
